“I began the Pond series in 2009 as an homage to the wetlands near my home in Kingston, Ontario. My painting process is instinctual, spontaneous and quite physical. Rich layers of pigmented beeswax are gouged into, poured, and torched creating rowdy and random markings.”
Su Sheedy's encaustic work has appeared on television shows, movies, and documentaries. She has taught workshops and given lectures as an expert in her medium. She has been chief hanger and adjudicator in several art exhibitions and is represented by many commercial galleries and collections across Canada and the United States. Sheedy works in encaustic using rich layers of pigmented beeswax that is gouged, poured, and torched creating a rowdy surface of random markings to reflect the ponds and lichens within.
